REDDING, Calif. – Residents and businesses in the City of Redding now have the opportunity to recycle foam polystyrene (Styrofoam) thanks to a $49,000 grant from the Foam Recycling Coalition. The City’s Solid Waste Transfer Station has purchased and installed a foam densifier.
Densifiers compact collected materials into condensed polystyrene bricks that are shipped to end markets and then recycled into new products.
Starting immediately, the city will accept clean foam polystyrene protective packaging at the recycling drop-off area at the Transfer Station located at 2255 Abernathy Lane. Clean, dry polystyrene cups, egg cartons, meat trays (no plastic wrap or absorbent pads) and clean (no food residue) take-out food containers can also be recycled at the Transfer Station.
